Castle Combe 2006
We met in Alderholt 7.00 am, weather OK, with 9 minis arriving to annoy Daves’ neighbours.
I set the convoy rolling, only to get a call that Betty had stuck in gear, even before leaving the drive!
A quick repack of equipment and bodies and we moved on to Handley, picked up three more(Norman, Pete and Derek), and with a slight realignment of passengers, off through the lanes, down Zig Zag, and found Adrian waiting patiently at Shaftsbury. He locked on, and off to the Services at Warminster, where we just caught Fee moving out in her “Shorty”, thinking we had gone!
A quick break, and off through Westbury, Melksham and Chippenham, arriving at Castle Comb around 9.30 to find 5 more cars there already. (OK some had camped out, but not all) So, a 20 cars Stand for the Old skool mini club, quite impressive.
The gazebo went up, together with the banner on its new frame, and we were set for the day, with Mike and Fiona arriving to add to the numbers.
Unfortunately, no-one told the weather to behave, so we did have some heavy showers through the day, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Just after midday, we went to move off for the parade laps, only for Fees’”Shorty” to flood. (or so we thought). She got pushed somwhere, and the remainder took to the track. It was damp at best, as some found out, the bloke in front of Dave spun straight away!
We all went round for a few laps then back to our Stand.
There were quite a few Trade stands, (some obviously trying to get maximum profit from the last big Show), lots of fellow mini club stands, and some super cars.
We then found( well it was Adrian actually) that the “Shorty” had a broken fuel pipe, so off to the Traders, and Adrian deftly sorted the problem.
No further dramas unfolded up to the time we packed up, around 4 pm, and headed for home. Weather was not good on the way home, but we splashed our way back, arriving Alderholt about 5.45 pm.
A good day out, and a very enjoyable annual event. Now all we have to do is clean the cars before this Sundays meet!
